Constant Transition

I just recently ended my year of AmeriCorps Service at El Centro Hispano in Durham, NC. I really enjoyed working there. I recently visited everyone there; and in some respects it feels like I really have not left. I don't know how to explain it. I guess I have done that with other things. I leave but I don't really leave. I guess my work with them is not quite done yet.

Since that has ended I have had no "job", or constant source of income. I am looking for work. It's tough for me because I am so picky about what I will allow myself to work in. On the other hand the last time I was looking for work...I couldn't even volunteer for anything. Meaning, I called departments and so forth volunteering my time in exchange for experience to help with projects and they called back saying there was no need. So I don't anticipate doing the same thing, but better utilize the network I have now.

I may not have a "job", but I am certified to substitute teach in Wake County. I've opened up my availability to teach at any school in the county, which are many. Teaching opportunities don't come easily though. I have to consistantly check online if there are new jobs and in most cases I know where I'm working the night before or the morning of. I actually enjoy what I am doing, there is something about being around youth in a learning environment. I don't enjoy having to raise my voice to students, but I am always impressed with the few of those students who withstand the disruptions of their classmates and actually quickly and efficiently do their classwork and continue to work on other work from other classes or use the remaining time actually reading a book. Impressive.

So my life now in constant transition. I don't know where I will work until (hopefully) the night before. There have been two bugs in the system and I've either showed up at the wrong school or there was no job for me there. What can one do in those cases, it was not human error. Transitioned to the other school or found another job. Tough. But I enjoy it.
